Vidya Balan's 'Kahaani' emerges as bumper hit, enters third week of gainsAt a time when one expected a big release like Agent Vinod to be the crowd puller, Kahaani , which was released on March 9, continues to steal the show. Sujoy Gosh's Kahaani , made with a budget of merely Rs 8 crore, had recovered its production cost right in the opening weekend. The movie collected Rs 88 lakh through paid previews on March 8 and raked around Rs 14 crore at the box-office in the following weekend.

Thereafter, the movie went on adding revenues from the box-office collections. Vidya Balan's Kahaani netted around Rs 24 crore during the first week. Today, when most of the movies fail to hold on even for a fortnight, Kahaani is making records week-after-week. "Generally, most films register a 50% to 70% decline in the second week, since the screen count is fair/massive these days, but the decline in this case was around 25%, which is simply remarkable," tweeted trade analyst Taran Adarsh.

Experts say that in addition to good content, ‘word of mouth publicity' resulted in Kahaani 's success story. Irrespective of the release of Illuminati films' Agent Vinod, analysts say Kahaani may show occupancy of 85% in its third week as well. Balan's Kahaani , is a story of a pregnant Vidya Bagchi (Vidya Balan), who flies down to Kolkata from London looking for her missing husband.

With the movie's star cast consisting of mostly Bengali actors, Balan stands out to be the only well-known face in Kahaani . Like most of her other movies, she manages to dominate the screen space with ease. The actress, who has been recently honoured with a National Award for her role in The Dirty Picture , could stand another chance for a best actress nomination. But, while there is not an inch of doubt of Balan's role in Kahaani 's success, one cannot ignore the script and direction of the movie. Hats off to Sujoy Ghosh, for it is under his direction that the movie's script holds on to the audiences' nerves till the last minute.
