It's a hell of a lot of money to play a role that Jaya (Bachchan) Bhaduri made famous in the 1970s, but Bollywood is sparing no expense in trying to get the feisty Priyanka Chopra to sign up for the remake of Zanjeer. And Kareena Kapoor, who ruled the popularity stakes by demanding Rs 8 crore for Madhur Bhandarkar's Heroine, better watch out; as Priyanka has upped the ante with a Rs 11 crore offer from the makers of Zanjeer. And, the actress appears excited and keen to take it up.
The film, that will go on floors on April 13, will see Priyanka playing a spunky and bold NRI cafe owner. With this, she will become the only actress to work in three Amitabh Bachchan remakes - Don, Agneepath and now, Zanjeer. Vidya Balan is another actress, who has pushed up the Bollywood heroines' appearance fees with stunning performances in The Dirty Picture and Kahaani. Then, there is Katrina Kaif, who was paid Rs 2.5 crore for the ‘Munni Badnaam Hui’ song that she did in the Tamil version of Dabangg. Also, Bipasha Basu, who is reportedly being paid Rs 3 crore per film, even though she does not have too many projects in her kitty. And after Dabangg, Sonakshi Sinha set her fee at Rs 2 crore for Kamal Hassan’s film Vishwaroopam.
