Sudhir Mishra's upcoming project Mehrunnisa has been in the news ever since it was announced for its unique star cast. Mishra has signed ailing actor Amitabh Bachchan, Rishi Kapoor and Vinod Khanna for the film. Though he is yet to finalise his leading lady, rumours are rife that Katrina Kaif has been offered the lead role opposite Amitabh.

Sudhir initially wanted his favourite actress Chitrangada Singh to do the film but she was too busy to take up the film. Reports also suggested Vidya Balan may star in the lead role. Nikhil Adwani is producing this film and he is willing to cast Katrina in the lead role.

Katrina is busy shooting for Yash Chopra's next with Shah Rukh Khan and will take a final call once she is back. If Katrina agrees to be part of the film she will sport two different looks - one of a 20 year old girl while the other would be of an older woman in her 60s. Meanwhile, Amitabh is still recuperating from his illness and therefore, the makers are in no hurry to start shooting for their movie. If things go well, the film will be ready for release by the end of this year.
