Dev Anand, Bollywood actor and director, has died of a heart attack in a London hotel at the age of 88. He had been complaining recently of feeling unwell and the actor had travelled to the hotel for a medical check up. In a posting on Twitter, his nephew said that he “was working one minute. Sat down and smiled. And was gone the next” adding, that he “lived and died on his own terms”.
Anand had a career that spanned 65 years and was famous for starring in dozens of movies, including Paying Guest, Guide and Jewel Thief. Chargesheet, his last directed film, was released last September. He also set up a production company in 1949 called Navketan International Films which produced more than 35 movies. His family plan to cremate his body in London this week. He leaves behind a wife and two children.
