Rescue plan for Bipasha’s Hollywood film underwayFor some time now, Bipasha Basu’s debut Hollywood flick, Singularity, has been making news owing to financial problems. The time-travel epic apparently ran into trouble when the company behind the film owed an estimated USD 15.13 million to creditors, the cast and crew. Now, a rescue plan has been designed to save Singularity. The proposal, discussed at a creditors’ meeting in Brisbane, involves completing the film by June 30, which would trigger millions of dollars in government rebates, allowing creditors to be re-paid. Other financial options are also being explored.

“I have always maintained that Singularity isn’t in major financial trouble. I met Roland (director Roland Joffé) some time ago, and he was excited. I’ve two days of shooting left, which I will complete in April. Then we will work on promotions. So financial issues don’t figure at all,” says Bipasha.

Oscar-nominated Joffé’s $28 million film is being shot in Australia and India. Besides Bipasha, the film stars Josh Hartnett and Neve Campbell. The Jodi Breakers actor plays a Marathi warrior, Tulaja Naik, whom Jay Fennel (Josh), a rugged and attractive marine archeologist, falls in love with.

Ask her if she was worried over reports about financial trouble and she smiles, “You can’t really control such things (reports), but I never lost sleep over it. I have always been very happy and positive.” Also, the buzz is that Singularity will be showcased at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. The actor says, “I don’t think so. Actually, I have no idea. Only Roland can answer this.”

About the film Singularity is a sweeping tale of an impossible love story set against the backdrop of the first Anglo-Maratha war, across two time periods and continents. Besides the state of Queensland in Australia, the film has also been shot majorly around the rocky terrains of Chambal, Orchha and Gwalior.
