Actor Tusshar Kapoor has had a rather successful run at the Box Office last year with films like Shor in the City and The Dirty Picture hitting jackpot. But more than just the hit tag, what really matters for him, insists Tusshar, is that it opens up windows that allow a wider choice of films to come in. Admitting that the offers have shot up since his recent outings, he adds, “I think the real achievement for any actor is having the chance to pick and choose films and personally, till I have that choice to make, I’m happy.”
Though the actor has always had film offers coming in, what’s different now, points out the actor, is that there are far more films that tap more than just the comic streak in the actor, including action and romantic fare. “I love doing comedies, but I’m glad that as an actor, filmmakers now seek something beyond just that in me. It’s sort of an artistic high being considered for the varied roles that are coming my way,” says Tusshar.
Though the actor has a slew of comedies lined up ahead including the upcoming Chaar Din Ki Chaandni (which will release on Thursday instead of Friday) and then Kya Super Kool Hain Hum, Tusshar says that his choice doesn’t depend on the film being a multi-starrer or a solo lead or the genre either.
“For me, having a good experience off screen, while shooting the film is just as important as the experience the film finally offers to the audience. I think when you enjoy working on a film, it shows. And that’s important. After all, no film comes with a hit guarantee, the only thing that you know for sure is the experience you’ve had,” explains Tusshar. “People think that only drama or films from other genres are hard work, but the fact is that making people laugh is just as challenging too. I am just glad that I’m getting to do it all.”
As for his experience of working on Samir Karnik’s film with Kulraj Randhawa, he says that the shootings have been fun from day one. What makes it special, of course, is the ode he pays to his favourite actors on screen dad Jeetendra and Sridevi. “She’s always been my favourite actress. Especially, her film Chandni is an all-time favourite. So when I got to do the song and dance to it, I just went all out and had a blast dancing,” reveals the actor. But what about getting into shoes of dad Jeetendra and doing a remake of his film? “Well, first of all, there are too many of his films that I love to choose from. But to be honest, I’m not too sure of remakes. I don’t think anyone can recreate dad’s magic on screen,” he smiles.
