For Sachin Tendulkar, the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) is a home away from home. The maestro loves the ambience at this famous venue steeped in history and bearing the footprints of the game's immortals. The SCG has invariably brought out the best in Tendulkar in the foremost form of the game — Test cricket. In five Tests here, Tendulkar has scored 785 runs at an awesome average of 157.00 with three centuries.
In recognition of the glorious cricket he has played at this venue, New South Wales Premier Barry O' Farrell, on Sunday, presented the Indian legend with honorary life membership of the SCG — the first overseas cricketer to receive the honour. “Sachin is one of the greatest cricketers ever and it's only appropriate we honour him with life membership at one of the world's greatest cricket grounds. Sachin has provided crowds with wonderful memories at the SCG,” Mr. O'Farrell said.
He added, “Always a crowd favourite, Sachin has received support akin to Australian legends of the game at the SCG.” SCG Trust Chairman Rodney Cavalier said, “Sachin has conducted himself with grace and dignity throughout his career. I'm sure all members and cricket fans would welcome him back to the SCG at any time.”
