Eijaz Khan is back on television. His new show Shubh Vivaah premieres tonight, but what we wonder is why he is not concentrating entirely on his Bollywood career. Isn’t that what all actors ultimately want? And Eijaz’s Bollywood career has been growing pretty steadily, since his item number Dilli ki sardi in Zameen. True, it hasn’t brought him the success that his television shows Kkavyanjali and Kya Hoga Nimmo Ka brought him, but his performance in Tanu Weds Manu was appreciated by critics and audiences alike. And he has already shot for Zilla Ghaziabad, where he plays Vivek Oberoi’s younger brother. So then why is he back on television? Is his Bollywood career not as good as it seems to us?

“I didn’t come back to TV because my films didn’t click,” insists Eijaz. “Tanu Weds Manu was one of the biggest grossers that year. I would like to believe that I have clicked in my films. It is my choice to do television. I felt I was alienating my primary audience and I wanted to reconnect. If an interesting film comes up, I will be able to manage both. Shubh Vivaah can’t afford me every day! In fact there is something interesting coming up very soon. I am meeting a few directors and it is encouraging that they recognise me and my work. I would like to do more films. It refreshes you, in a way.” That’s a relief to know, isn’t it, Eijaz Khan fans?
