The failure of 'Ekk Deewana Tha' will strongly affect the standing of Prateik Babbar in Bollywood. Remake of a South superhit film might not always have the same fate in Bollywood. While it's Tamil (Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa) and Telugu (Ye Maaya Chesave) versions were huge hits, the Hindi film Ekk Deewana Tha failed to excite the audience. Even choice of two ending did not help the film because somewhere audiences were disappointed with the film in entirety.
The reviews were negative, the opening was weak and the overall business has been disastrous. The film hardly managed to collect Rs 3.5 crore over the opening weekend, which isn't saying much. The failure of this film will strongly affect the standing of Prateik Babbar, more than anybody else. Many felt his act was inconsistent and he is unable to pull off a solo lead.
The other two releases expectedly went unnoticed. There were no takers for Jackie Shroff - Archana Joglekar's Married 2 America and Percept Picture Company's '?' went unnoticed because of zero publicity and lack of face value, though the ones who saw it were impressed with its treatment. Meanwhile business of Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu dropped in its second week, unlike the other Dharma Production, Agneepath which remained strong even in it's week two. The film managed around Rs 5 crores in its second weekend and this despite no potential competition.
The coming week sees two romantic comedies fighting it out at the box-office. The first is Riteish Deshmukh - Genelia D'Souza's first release after marriage Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya. Riteish is coming in solo lead after long and it needs to be seen whether his real life chemistry with Genelia D'Souza will translate as effectively in reel life as well. The second release, Jodi Breakers gets Bipasha Basu and Madhavan together for the first time. There is also a third release Say Yes To Love starring a new pair but the film doesn't hold much promise.
