Asin talk to Masala

Asin talk to MasalaAsin Thottumkal isn’t exactly an interviewer’s delight. You can’t get spicy quotes or controversial bytes out of her. Despite arriving in Bollywood with a mammoth hit starring opposite one of the biggest superstars in the country, Aamir Khan, Asin prefers to keep a low-profile. She is the kind of girl, who, at the end of the day, would rather go home and relax with her parents than dress up and hit the party scene and be talked about. Right now, there’s a lot happening in Asin’s life. Her much-awaited film with Salman Khan, Ready has just released and rumours abound that she is the lucky one to have bagged 2 States with Shah Rukh Khan. If it works out, she’ll be one of the few actresses to have had the entire Khan platter. But ask the lady about it and she’s as tight-lipped as ever…

You were practically out of circulation before the promos of Ready came along. What were you doing all this while? It wasn’t planned. I probably did not follow the norm in Bollywood that once you have had a big hit (in my case Ghajini), you go on a signing spree and are visible at one promotional event after the other.

What made you sign Ready? It’s a remake of a Tamil movie that I had watched and loved. T-Series approached me and said that Anees Bazmee is remaking the movie with Salman in the lead. Aneesji is a master of commercial cinema and having seen the original, I felt Salman suits the character he plays in the film to the ‘T’. Aneesji has tailored it a little to suit Salman’s persona and the audience’s tastes in Bollywood. I thought it was a good project to be a part of, not only due to the script but also because of the team behind it.
