Bollywood appeals to Mumbaikars to vote in civic pollsBollywood celebrities are urging citizens to exercise their franchise to elect "right" candidates, a day ahead of polling for the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). Elections for ten municipal corporations, including Mumbai, will be held tomorrow and counting the next day. As many as 2,232 candidates are in the fray for 227 electoral wards in the city.

"When more and more people vote the chances of a good candidate getting elected also increase. It is important for every person to cast vote because your vote is important. Youth must come forward to vote," actor-producer Arbaaz Khan said at a voting awareness campaign held today at Rizi College in suburban Bandra.

Actress Raveena Tandon, who was also part of the campaign said she was marveled by the enthusiasm among the youth. "Was for the awareness amongst the youth to Wakeup and Vote!! Fabulous one minute film and presentation made by the students! Felt Pride! If this enthusiasm continues without pessimism, the future seems in good hands! The kids and the teens put on a great show (sic)," Raveena tweeted.

"In 2007 Mumbai civic election, 37 candidates won by 500 votes or less. YOUR vote CAN make a big difference (sic)," veteran actor Kabir Bedi wrote on Twitter. "Vote for the least bad, but vote, or the most bad win. To all voting in elections, throw out the rascals who failed and vote for honest candidates with a possibility of winning (sic)," he said.

"Apparently only 10 per cent of the youth vote while they make up 40 per cent of the electorate. If exit polls show that the educated voters come out in large numbers, political parties will be forced to field better candidates," director Ken Ghosh said. "So please remember to vote tomorrow," he added. "The city I call home. Am going 2 vote 4 her tomorrow. If u call bombay home, Then so should you (sic)," director Tarun Mansukhani said.
