Kareena Kapoor, Imran Khan, rom-com genre, reasonably popular music and Valentine week, and so a good to decent start (especially at 'A' centre multiplexes) for the Karan Johar venture was a foregone conclusion, more so due to the by and large positive reviews in the media.
However, despite all the above factors the opening day saw multiplex collections, varying from a best of 50- 60 percent (NCR), to an ordinary 20-25 percent at most other places (Mumbai-Gujarat belt included), came as a surprise.
The single screens were never expected to fare well and nor did they, as the opening hovered around 10-15 percent. But no need to press the panic button yet as the film can still manage a decent weekend and sail through to the plus side, given the fact that EK MAIN AUR EKK TU has a total release cost of 37 crore (all inclusive), more than half of which is likely to be recovered from non-theatrical rights.
Meanwhile last Friday's GALI GALI CHOR HAI could not achieve anything significant and ended the week with around 4 crores, while the Hrithik-Priyanka starrer AGNEEPATH netted another 22-24 crore for a two week total of 112-114 crore (to be validated), and is on way to being the first super hit of the year.
