What was being feared all this while has indeed come true. Kareena Kapoor, who has always aspired to see her biggies separated by at least a few weeks from each other, will now have a (rather unwanted) double bill to her name this February. Plans have been announced for her Agent Vinod as well and as things stand today, the film would arrive exactly a week after Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu.
"This is the kind of situation no actor would ever want for herself", says a trade expert, "Most of them would want at least a gap of two months between their films, leave aside just a few weeks. However, the inevitable has now happened and it would be some tough times ahead for Kareena. Not just would she have to promote both of her films in parallel, she would also have to live with the fact that it would be her own Agent Vinod which would be challenging Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu."
This indeed puts Kareena in a spot because the situation here is akin to dividing time between her personal and professional space. With Saif Ali Khan as a partner and Agent Vinod being pretty much her home production, she has to go all out for Agent Vinod. On the other hand, since Karan Johar is one of her closest friends, she has to go full justice to Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu as well.
"She can't afford to pick and chose because she is not just an eye candy in either of the two films. She is a key protagonist in the spy thriller as well as the rom-com with a proper role to boast of that goes beyond just a song and dance routine", says a colleague, "Both films are quite close to her heart and while she would be praying that they turn out to be successful, this is indeed a first in her career where she would have to go through such an intensive drill."
Though an official declaration is yet to come from the makers of Agent Vinod, the release date has been pegged as February 17. On the other hand, Karan Johar has made his intentions quite clear that with a 10th February arrival, Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu would bring in Valentine's Day.
Kareena Kapoor "We wanted to bring Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu this year itself but due to certain date hassles, we couldn't do that. Now that it is coming in a week leading to Valentines Day, we couldn't have asked for a better date as releasing a film belonging to this genre at this time is a good commercial move", says Karan, who is also busy with the promotion of Agneepath. "Of course eventually a film speaks for itself and no amount of marketing can undo the eventual outcome if a film is bad. However, with 10th February being finalised, it is just a perfect date."
