Ladies Vs Ricky Behl: Conman ComedyA conman known for foolproof plans leaves a pet caller tune only to prove that he’s nothing but a fool. His victims on the other hand, three girls with diverse backgrounds and contrasting priorities in life, have the time and inclination to hatch a police-free, full-time vendetta plan leaving their jobs, credentials and homes behind.

If you are ready to believe such inventive stuff, you’ll thoroughly enjoy this Con-Con flick. The end is what you can expect it to be and there’s an unconvincing twist to the tale as well, just like we saw in Band Bajaa Baraat. All the same, this film is highly watchable and the players (helped by some inspiring Salim-Suleiman numbers) make it even more enduring …thanks to their first-rate performances.

Ranveer Singh’s money-minded, charming conman is a revelation no doubt; but the support cast is no less striking. Parineeta Chopra forms the epicenter with her ‘Dimple’, the boisterous 24-carat Delhi damsel; but the ‘Sharma’ gang led by director Manish Sharma hit bull’s eye as well.

Dipannita Sharma’s no-nonsense Mumbai biz gal Raina and Aditi Sharma’s working class widow from Lucknow, both bring out the essence of their characters with effortless ease. Surprisingly, it’s the third Sharma, Anushka, who seems to have lost some of her shine, thanks to her irritating paste-up smile that pervades the screen on every appearance. Agreed the script offers her the least support but her staple gestures make it even worse. It’s high time she realized she needs a makeover. In ad after ad, in film after film, in award nite after award nite, her mindless exuberance is the same. Can anything be more tragic for a proven talent?

Actor Ranveer Singh surprises us with his mind blowing encore to ‘Band Bajaa Baraat’. Just when his introductory appearance as a Delhi-based gym trainer reminds you of ‘Bittu Sharma’; he swiftly turns into a pony-sporting art exhibitor discussing the finer aspects of an M F Hussain painting and then, into a struggling cloth merchant, toiling on the bustling streets of Lucknow. This guy knows how to deliver it in style. Right from his new-look physique to the subtleties of each role, he proves he’s a fabulous actor.

Only if he learns to monitor his umpteen submissions in the public domain (that don’t go beyond validating his platonic chemistry with Anushka Sharma), this dark horse of the industry has a lot to gain from celluloid space. In fact, he could well race ahead of most of the others among the acting-starved current crop. Else, he would, at best, be branded as the poor man’s Ranbir. And that would be highly unfortunate, given his earthy flair and unconventional appeal.
