The success of his first film ‘Band Baaja Baarat’ caused a "metaphoric explosion" in Ranveer Singh`s life but the actor says he has not let the chaos affect his selection of movies. The 26-year-old has reunited with the team of `Band Baaja...` for his second film `Ladies Vs Ricky Bahl`, which had its world premiere last night at the Dubai International Film Festival.

Unlike his character of a Jat boy in his first film, Ranveer plays a smart conman in his latest opposite Anushka Sharma. "I am a conman in the movie who makes women fall in love with him and then steals their money. I would say charming ladies is an art that comes naturally to me. It is a grey character but I had fun donning different avatars for the movie," the actor said.

Recalling his days post `Band Baaja...`, Ranveer says it was a strange time and he was getting so many offers that he could have signed films for the next six years to come but decided to sit back and take one step at a time. "There was a metaphoric explosion in my life. There was so much chaos that I did not have time to sit back and think. People were ready to sign me for next six years. I remember going through my inbox and when I saw the names there, I thought `this could not be my phone!`," Ranveer told reporters.

He feels that not getting carried away with the success of his first film has kept him in good stead. He recently signed a film with `Udaan` director Vikramaditya Motwane, which brings together Anurag Kashyap and other "cinematically passionate" people together under the umbrella of Phantom film production house. Titled `Lootera`, the film is Ranveer`s third and Sonakshi Sinha stars opposite him.

"I want to plan my career step by step and not do as many films as there are. It gives you this real surge of excitement when you are working with the right people, who are cinematically passionate. "I am really excited about my next film. It is set in 1950s Bengal and is a love story. I am curious to know what Vikram`s mind will come up with next. He has worked in every department of filmmaking. He has an insight into the astuteness of direction and speaks with such clarity."

He has had no formal training in acting and Ranveer says his few experiences with theatre and workshops did not help him much for cinema acting. “I am a very nervous actor but I have learnt to channel those feelings. Out of my nervousness comes this need to rehearse. I take too much tension but I have learnt to chill out.”

"Fortunately, working with Anushka has taught me that you should have room for spontaneity. She makes my performances better and we have great chemistry in `Ricky Bahl`. But as far as training is concerned, nothing can prepare you for cinema acting. It can`t be taught." `Ricky Bahl` being his second film, comparisons are bound to be drawn but Ranveer says people will find the character completely different.

"Bittoo has left a deep impression in people`s mind. I remember when I hosted an award show director Abhinav Kashyap came to me and said `I did not know you could speak English`. People still think that I am that jat boy but this film will hopefully change that." He also denied that the Yash Raj film was inspired by Hollywood chick flick `John Tucker Must Die`.
