Ranveer can’t contain his excitement when he talks about his role in the movie. He says, in the movie, he changes colours and the smooth operator in him is given his due. “This young guy identifies good-looking, rich, spoilt young girls in each city, cons them and makes money. His mannerisms and speech are typical of the City, from where his targets are identified. In Lucknow, he’s a Lucknowite and in Mumbai, he’s a typical Mumbaikar. Once, he wins a woman’s trust, he cons them and scoots with their money,” explains Ranveer.

He’s in a different avatar each time. “His modus operandi is to spot the target in a particular city. He would then do a lot of background research about the target and when he finally meets her, he would do only those things that please her,” he adds.

He says the best part about being an actor is that the film industry offers a large platter of opportunities. He says, “I want to sign films that test my skills as an actor.” He says he never wants to be typecast but would love to do as many versatile roles as he can.

Ranveer recalls that Band Baaja Baaraat, his debut film, gave him his big break, “I would say that my life changed overnight. Suddenly, I became the most sought-after man. My phone would never stop ringing and people instantly recognised me — it’s a humbling experience. I am grateful for the acceptance and appreciation that I have got from people,” observes Ranveer.

In a short time, Ranveer has been linked to some of his co-stars, including Anushka Sharma. How does he react to such link-ups? “I used to find the whole phenomenon very absurd at first. If I was seen somewhere with a girl, the media and the people would assume that I am going around with her. Derogatory stuff would be written in the papers. I used to get upset earlier but now I have learnt to take it in my stride,” he says. “I also make sure that whatever is written about in the papers does not upset my relationship with my co-stars.”

Is there someone special in his life? “My dad”, he says without a second thought. “I have grown up watching him and the struggles he’s been through to build his career. I have learnt from him that there’s no substitute for hard work and that’s something I follow as well,” he wraps up.
