Why 'Bollywood' is not B-town's sweltering favourite? The term ‘Bollywood’ has been associated with Hindi cinema since its origin. But with time, people in the Hindi film industry have started disliking the term as they feel it has been derived from the term ‘Hollywood’ and is a very ambiguous and demeaning term in itself. Here we bring to you some of our famous Bollywood celebs who have spoken their heart out to oppose the word, ‘Bollywood’.

The first celeb to have opposed the term ‘Bollywood’ is none other than handsome hunk, Salman Khan. He feels that the word is really disgusting and he had even tweeted some time back on Twitter that it should not be used the Hindi film industry. He said word Bollywood has came from Hollywood and became so popular that everyone uses it now. He had even suggested a new name for Bollywood - ‘Hi Fi’.

Apart from Salman Khan, even veteran star, Amitabh Bachchan had gone ahead and expressed his greatest displeasure against the term, ‘Bollywood’. He feels that the usage of that term demeans the status of the industry and it showcases the Indian film industry at a much lower level than Hollywood. Amitabh has always strongly opposed its usage and he finds the word rather abusing every time it is used.

Bollywood director, Imtiaz Ali of ‘Jab We Met’ and ‘Love Aaj Kal’ fame shares the same feeling with Salman and Big B. Imtiaz too dislikes the word Bollywood. The talented filmmaker feels that that the term Bollywood is a replication of Hollywood. Imtiaz feels that the Hindi film industry should be called the Bombay film industry, as he feels that the name Bombay is free and has always been associated with the film industry.

Bollywood actor, Arshad Warsi is also completely against the word, ‘Bollywood’. He feels that it’s really demeaning to be called Bollywood as it makes the Hindi film industry look like a poor man’s version of Hollywood. According to him, being called Bollywood is really humiliating and we do not deserve this as the Hindi film industry is the largest makers of films in the world.

Sunny Deol, another Bollywood actor finds the term rather cheesy and weird. He’s very unsure about how this absurd name got connected to Bollywood and never got changed. Sunny feels that Hindi film industry should be called Bombay Talkies, Mumbai Talkies, Hindi film industry or Indian Cinema in its simplest form rather than Bollywood.

With so many celebs fighting for the name of the industry, one question arises. What’s there in the name?? Till now the industry has always been known as Bollywood. Will changing the name to anything else like, “Hi Fi’ change the way people look at it? Will people be able to relate to the new name just like they have been till now? Well these are some questions that have still been left unanswered…
