Well, Vidya says that she hasn’t seen much of Silk Smitha’s films, except film Sadma, starring Sridevi and Kamal Haasan, which had Silk in brief role. Vidya was talking to a news agency when she revealed some of the facets of The Dirty Picture and the character she is portraying.

Vidya further adds, “There was no preparation from my end for the role.” The only instruction director Milan Luthria gave her was to be ‘bindaas’, but what that meant was hard to decipher for Vidya, who was at a loss and was not aware as to how to portray the role in the film.

She just kept reading the script and performed accordingly. Now, she knows what Milan wanted from her. Silk Smitha was fearless and so is ‘Silk’ Vidya in the film. “Now I know and understand that it was all about being completely free, fearless and uninhibited and I have enjoyed exploring that side of me,” she added.

Silk Smitha was ahead of her times and reached the iconic status of a sex symbol in south film industry. She did over 200 films, and died a mysterious death at the young age of 33. It is suspected that she committed suicide. The movie The Dirty Picture goes back into the era of the 1980s and shows the highs and lows of a dancing star.
