Soha Ali Khan & Goutam Ghosh work together: Soha Ali Khan rates Goutam Ghosh and Aparna Sen as her favourites among Bengali filmmakers and also plans to consolidate her `thinking actress` image in Bolywood by working with topnotch directors like Sudhir Mishra.
The actress says she was all set to star in Aparna`s `Goyenar Baksho` (the jewellery box) but it fell through for reasons not within her control. "I am willing to work with Aparna Sen as I count her among my favourites. We were supposed to work in Goyenar Bakso together but unfortunately it got stuck. If she revives the film or offers me any of her future projects, I will be happy," Soha told reporters.
"I would also love to work with Goutam Ghose in future, if a suitable role comes my way," said the actress, who was in the city to launch Ruptiti Creations event. The petite star has bagged a major role in Deepa Mehta`s `Winds of Change`, based on Salman Rushdie`s `Midnight`s Children` but is not ready to reveal much.
"I am very enthusiastic about the experience as the film is based on such a literary work. But sadly my contract doesn`t permit me to shed more light on my roles or anything else," says Soha, who is reportedly playing the role of a woman called Jamila. However, she is more forthright about her appreciation for Deepa as a filmmaker of international repute.
"One of the most admired film makers who handles delicate situations, understandings and human relationships in her own sensuous way," is how Soha puts her experience of working with Mehta.
Asked if she felt it was more at ease to work with women directors, down from `Life Goes On` maker Sangeeta Dutta to Deepa Mehta or Aparna, Soha said, "I must say these things cannot be slotted in genders. From Sangeeta to Deepa, from Rakyesh Omprakash Mehra to Sudhir Mishra, every director is
different.
Soha believes that Mehra`s `Rang De Basanti` was a turning point in her Bollywood career also counts `Khoya Khoya Chand` (by Mishra) as among her favourites in Hindi film industry.
"I am open to work with debutant makers if the role, the script and the execution is interesting. Am very positive about two upcoming ventures Soundtrack and Chemistry by directors Neerav Ghosh and Sai Kabir," she said.
Asked if Chemistry will dwell on the `chemistry of life` Soha said, "It is a youthful romantic film with the zest of life and there are comic moments thrown in."Soha made her debut in Bengali film `Iti Srikanto` based om a Sharat Chandra Chattopadhyay`s novel and Hindi film debut with `Dil Maange More` (2004).
The actress, who has watched Satyajit Ray`s Devi time and again among other works, rates her mother`s portryal as the most favourite one. "I rate mom`s role in Devi as my most favourite," Soha says when reminded about the similarites between her look in Rituparno`s `Antramahal` opposite Jackie Shroff and Sharmila`s in `Devi`.
