Abhay Deol’s girlfriend Preeti Desai has joined the cast of Navdeep Singh’s Rock The Shaadi, that will go on the floors later this month with a two-month schedule in Rajasthan. However, Preeti is only doing a cameo and it is Genelia D’Souza who is paired with Abhay in the ‘zom-com.’
“The movie should be a blast because Punjabi weddings are fun, flamboyant and colourful. And this one has zombies too. No, I’ve never met one but loads of people have been trying to chew on my brains for years,” laughs Genelia.
AbhayAbhay is equally kicked about this Zombie- meets-Punjabi wedding. “Tandoori bheja fry will be the main dish. You’re often told to leave you brains behind when you go for a madcap comedy but if you do so in this case, you may end up with the zombies feasting on them,” he chuckles. “Rock The Shaadi is one of the funniest scripts I’ve read. I wouldn’t mind having a big fat Pun-Zom wedding myself.”
Remind him that’s he’s been quoted as saying that he doesn’t believe in marriage and he says, “Yeah, marriage may work for some people but personally, I don’t feel the need for it. What is marriage anyway? Even if you take the saat pheras, there’s no guarantee that you will live happily ever after because the marriage could end in divorce. Even when a couple stays together, one could cheat on the other. But in my case, when I’m in a relationship, I’m loyal to my partner. I may not believe in marriage but I believe in monogamy. And if things are going well, I would never break off a relationship.”
How do the conservative Deols, who have fervently believed in the institution of marriage react to his radical idea of living in happily-ever after? Aren’t there pressures from his parents to settle down in the conventional way? “My parents know me well. Yes, they would love to see me settle down. They are waiting for me to say ‘yes’. But till then, they are happy if I’m happy.”
