A Mumbai court on Tuesday found actor Fardeen Khan guilty of possessing drugs. He would be sentenced on November 2. The judgement, however, comes as a blow to the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) and a reprieve for the actor as now he would be punished for buying only 1 gm cocaine from a drug peddler.
Fardeen, who was arrested on May 5, 2001 for buying the banned drug in Juhu, might now have to go to jail for six months or pay a measly fine or just agree for rehabilitation. The NCB had earlier alleged that Fardeen was arrested with 9 gm cocaine in his possession and alleged drug peddler Nadir Karim Shaikh in his company.
According to Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, the maximum punishment for possession of less than 2 gm drugs is five years. However, the maximum punishment for possessing more than 2 gm of banned drugs is 10-year imprisonment.
