Sagar Ballary's 'Hum Tum Shabana' is all set to be released on September 30. The film features Tusshar kapoor, Shreyas Talpade and Minissha Lamba in the lead roles. Ballary's last film 'Bheja Fry 2' had not done well as per the expectations and thus the director will be under some pressure to deliver.
Ballary's debut film 'Bheja Fry' in 2007 was inspired from a French film 'Le Dîner de Cons'. Then he came up with 'Bheja Fry 2', at a time when almost every director was trying to encash the sequel to his previous hit. 'Bheja Fry 2' did not do well at the box office despite an original story and acceptable acting. A Satyajit Ray Film Institute graduate, Sagar Ballary has again shown faith in the comic genre, where Tusshar Kapoor and Shreyas Talpade are trying to woo the same girl Shabana, played by Minissha Lamba.
The boys are ready to go to any length to win the girl's heart, but the girl knows their intentions and starts to take advantage of the situation. Soon the battle of winning the girl changes into a contest of losing her. Tusshar Kapoor is playing Rishi while Shreyas Talpade is donning the character of Karthik in 'Hum Tum Shabana'.
Still remembered for his role in Marathi TV serials such as 'Aabhal Maya' and 'Damini', Talpade has emerged as an actor with good comic timing in recent years. The directors have also realised his potential in comic scenes and probably this is the reason that Shreyas has played comic roles in his last five films.
On the other hand, Tusshar Kapoor, the face of the very successful 'Golmaal' series was last seen in Rajshri Productions' 'Love U…Mr. Kalakaar!'. Prior to it, Tusshar's work was appreciated in 'Shor in the City', where he had played a small time gangster. After his dream debut in 'Mujhe Kucch Kehna Hai' in the year 2001, Tusshar Kapoor was somehow reduced to the level of just another actor in multi starrers.
His overtly funny portrayal of deaf Lucky in 'Golmaal' got him the lost reorganisation. Afterwards, his performance in films as 'C Kkompany', 'Khakee' and 'Shootout at Lokhandwala' helped him in staying in the film industry. Now, he will be expecting a lot from 'Hum Tum Shabana' which could get him some more lead roles.
The third actor of the film is Minissha Lamba who has earlier worked with Ballary in 'Bheja Fry 2'. Lamba's career is heading nowhere in spite of some acknowledged performances in films such as 'Yahaan', 'Anamika' and 'Well Done Abba'. Thus, the film will be a chance to prove herself as a capable actor.
Pooja Batra is the added attraction of the film who will be seen on the silver screen after a long gap. She had shifted to Los Angeles after marriage, but now she is ready to move back to India after filing a divorce application. Songs of 'Hum Tum Shabana' have been released but so far they are unable to hit the right chords. It seems 'Hum Tum Shabana' relies more on the director Sagar Ballary's reputation than its actors' market strengths.
