Deepika goes down fighting

World junior champion Deepika Kumari of India lost to Cheng Ming of China in the tie-breaker of the women's individual recurve title match of the World Cup finals at Istanbul on Sunday. The two tied the score 5-5 after battling over five sets. In the one-arrow shoot-off, the Chinese shot a nine close to the 10 ring.

The Indian needed a 10 but under pressure shot an eight to lose a dramatic but closely fought contest.Reigning Commonwealth Games' individual and team gold medallist, Deepika had the chance to emulate her compatriot Dola Banerjee (2007) by winning the title but the Chinese was better on the day.
 
Earlier, the 17-year-old overcame Berengene Schuh of France 6-0 in the semifinals and defeated Alejandra Valencia of Mexico 6-4 in the quarterfinals. Berengene took bronze beating Korean youngster and top seed Jung Dasomi 6-2. The men's title went to World No. 1 archer, Brady Ellison of the U.S. He defeated Dia Xiaoxiang of China 6-2 in the final.
