Story: Simmi ( Deepshikha Nagpal), a divorcee with two kids, thinks she might have a second chance at matrimony when friendly neighbourhood guy Rahul walks into her life. But love doesn't seem to be enough in a society which frowns upon liaisons between younger, single men and older divorced woman: a bitter truth that Simmi takes time to realise.

Yeh Dooriyan

Movie Review: Actor Deepshikha makes her directorial debut with a film which is ostensibly autobiographical and has already appeared in an abridged version of a television reality show. But for those of you who haven't seen the voyeuristic telly show, Yeh Dooriyan might hold interest. Not as a peek-a-boo in the actor's personal life, but as a tch-tch (sorry) tale on the plight of divorced, single mothers in our society, who as the film says, are `available' but not eligible in the eyes of men with martinet moms.

It's a relentless tale of misfortune that plagues our valiant heroine as she copes with a bad marriage first and then suffers heartbreak and humiliation when her boyfriend succumbs to his mother's wishes and refuses to go against the social -- and maternal -- diktat. It does take a long time and a lot of long faces before the lady realises there's life beyond shaadi; that single, independent women are increasingly becoming the swinging norm today.

Deepshikha, on her part, does put in a restrained act as the suffering heroine, but can't say the same for the male acts. The men in the film are either hysterical (husband) or plastic (boyfriend) and the girlie gang (Delnaaz and Chitrashi) are borderline bimbettes. A brave attempt, Yeh Dooriyan needed a dash of polish and a healthier dose of story.
