Bollywood superstar Salman Khan has set a new record by becoming the first and only Bollywood actor whose films have collected Rs 500 crore in a single year at the Indian box office.According to reports, Salman Khan – Sonam Kapoor starer ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’ (PRDP) has earned Rs. 193.22 crore in 11 days, whereas ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ has collected Rs. 320.34 till now, making the overall collection of Salman Khan movies Rs 513.56 crore this year, and counting.Earlier, the recent Khan movie had beaten the opening day record of ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ with Rs. 40 crore on its opening day. The family entertainer’s record collection yet again proved Salman Khan as one of the most reliable and profitable stars in Bollywood.‘PRDP’ has performed well this weekend even as it faced strong competition from James Bond movie ‘Spectre’, which released this week.
In 2012, Salman-starrer movies ‘Ek Tha Tiger’ (198.78cr) and ‘Dabangg 2’ (155cr) had collected Rs. 353.78 crore and in 2014 ‘Jai Ho’ (116cr) and ‘Kick’ (230.69cr) had earned a total of Rs. 346.69 crore.The romantic drama ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’, written and directed by Sooraj Barjatya, released on November 12, is all set to enter the RS.200 crore clubs. The film was also released in Telugu and Tamil versions as ‘Prema Leela’ and ‘Mei Maranthaayo Anbe’, respectively. The Hindi version of the film collected Rs 172.82 crore in the first week while its Telugu and Tamil versions did average business.Deepika Padukone is the most successful Indian actress. Her movies had grossed Rs 632.48 crore in box office collections, from her 2013 releases, namely, ‘Race 2’, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, Chennai Express and Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram Leela.
