Priyanka Chopra's much-awaited biopic based on the life of Olympic medalist and five-time boxing world champion MC Mary Kom has been given tax-free status by the Government. Confirming the report, an ecstatic Priyanka Chopra says, "It's wonderful news. We have a compelling story to tell of a strong, determined woman who has done the nation proud. We can only hope that this will provide an impetus for more people to come to watch this story and be inspired. It's our tribute to all the unsung sports people who give so much to see the Indian flag flying high. If this can act as a catalyst of hope for them, then it's something we can all be proud of." Producer Sanjay Leela Bhansali too is extremely delighted with this news. According to a statement released by his office, Sanjay Leela Bhansali's spokesperson says, "Yes,Mary Kom has been declared tax-free by the government.

 

 

The biopic is a tribute to the Indian icon, Mary Kom's life and hence the tax free status will encourage audiences to recognize and support the spirit of the film". Ajit Andhare, COO, Viacom18 Motion Pictures adds, "Mary Kom celebrates a national hero, who as we speak is still competing to bring laurels to the country. We are grateful to the Revenue Minister Bala Saheb Thorat and government of state of Maharashtra for lending their support to the film. This exemption right from release day will allow large segments of society to experience the spirit of Magnificent Mary". Based on the true story of Mary Kom, this biopic narrates the journey of a boxer who gave up her sporting career when it was at its peak to embrace the joy of motherhood. But after giving birth to two children, she made her comeback in the ring and went on to make history. Earlier this Rani Mukerji's Mardaani was granted tax exemption is select states, and is expected to go tax-free in many more regions. And now with Mary Kom also getting tax-free status, woman power is truly rocking it in Bollywood.
