Dancing queen from Nepal wins Indian reality TV show

Eleven-year-old Teriya Magar has earned a special place in the hearts of Indians by becoming the first foreigner to win a desi reality show. A native of Rudrapur village in Nepal, Teriya has won the latest season of the hit dance reality show Dance India Dance L'il Masters . An overwhelming number of votes from across the border helped tip the scales in favour of Teriya, who beat the other two contestants by a huge margin. She was awarded a prize money of Rs.10 lakh, which her parents plan to use for her higher education. A dance enthusiast, Teriya said she mastered the art by practicing moves from Bollywood movies. Her village, she added, has no dance teacher.

" My stint on the show has helped me learn various dance forms, which I never knew existed. It is tough to participate in a reality show as the pressure is way too much," said Teriya, who made her maiden trip to India only to audition for the show. Back home, Teriya goes to a school founded by her grandfather, who once served in the Indian Army. Her mother runs the canteen at the school. " While my mom cooked and served noodles and momos, I watched TV shows, learning new dance steps from Bollywood stars while waiting for her," she said.
