There have been enough stories done on how Katrina Kaif made Salman Khan a stepping stone to reach greater heights. Well, no one can deny the fact, that after working with Sallu, Kat became one of the most sought after B-Town ladies. Our question is, will Jai Ho make Daisy Shah the next Katrine Kaif? A big hero or a hit film, neither translates into a successful career. Luck plays a big part. A lot of girls have made it to the big screen with big hereos. While a few went on to garner a lot of success, most girls disappeared without a trace. Salman is the only top star who gives the film industry new faces regularly. He does not limit himself to working with successful heroines alone. Actors like Katrina Kaif (though she didn’t debut with him), and Sonakshi Sinha owe their success to him. Now, there’s another newbie — Daisy Shah — who will be trying her luck with a SK movie. Will she make it big? Here’s looking at the girls who stepped on the silver screen opposite him. Daisy Shah who was choreographer Ganesh Acharya’s assistant and back-up dancer, makes her debut opposite Salman in Jai Ho that releases on Janurary 26. Although, she has acted in a Kannada movie, she was a virtual unknown face till Salman hand picked her for his brother Sohail Khan’s film. This film will be her box-office test.
Blockbuster babes
Nagma, who made her debut with the 1990 hit Baaghi made it big. She went on to do Yalgaar with Sanjay Dutt, Suhaag with Akshay Kumar and King Uncle with Shahrukh Khan. After a few years, she shifted focus to the South industry. She struck gold at the box-office and ruled for many years. She even proved to be a hit with the Bhojpuri audience.
Raveena Tandon who made her debut in Patthar Ke Phool (1991) went on to become one of the popular heroines. Though they were not cast opposite each other, she and Salman shared screen space in Andaz Apna Apna. She worked with almost every top hero in her hey days from Ajay Devgn to Akshay Kumar. Many successful movies and a National Award later (for Daman), Ravs shifted her focus to marriage. Now, Raveena juggles her TV appearances along with movie assignments. She was seen in Bbuddah Hoga Tera Baap (2011) and will be seen in Shobhana 7 Nights and Bomaby Velvet.
Bhagyashree
She became an overnight sensation with Maine Pyaar Kiya (1989). She was wooed by top actors and filmmakers but chose to kiss films goodbye to have a baby and become a domestic goddess. Post her phase in Bollywood, she concentrated on her marriage and returned to the tinsel town again to be seen in smaller roles. Golden opportunity wasted? Definitely!
Sonakshi Sinha
Not even Sonakshi thought that she would someday be making waves in Bollywood. Salman did not only inspire Sona to lose weight, but also gave her a dream launch in Dabangg The movie was a huge hit and Sona more than made her mark in Bollywood. A string of hits later, the actor is definitely among the most sought-after girls in Bollywood. She also starred in Dabangg 2.
Katrina Kaif
She made her debut in the disastrous Boom, but it was when Salman gave her Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya that B-Town developed interest in her. The actor became Salman’s girl off and on screen and was welcomed into the industry. She went on to do many films with Akshay Kumar and continues to reign a decade later.
The ones who failed to rock
Chandni
Even making a debut in a Salman Khan movie can’t help a few. Chandni, who stepped on the silver screen with Sanam Bewafa (1991), did generate a lot of curiosity. However, the actress couldn’t make it big either in B-Town or down South.
Revathy
Though Revathy won a lot of appreciation for the dubbed-version of Anjali, her big Bollywood debut was Love. The movie that had her playing Salman khan’s love interest Maggie released in 1991.She never quite made it in B-Town.
Bhoomika Chawla
Bhoomika Chawla who made her debut opposite Salman Khan in Tere Naam (2003). She worked with him again in Dil Ne Jise Apna Kaha and even acted opposite Abhishek Bachchan in Run. But couldn’t repeat her previous success. The actor is now married to yoga guru Bharat Thakur.
Sneha Ullal
This Aishwarya Rai Bachchan lookalike made her debut opposite Salman in Lucky: No Time For Love (2005). Not only did Sneha get terrible reviews for her acting, but unfortunately, the movie too tanked. She got another opportunity in Aryan that had her opposite Sohail Khan. However, the movie couldn’t get a proper release and that ended Sneha’s Bollywood dream.
Zarine Khan
Katrina Kaif look alike Zarine Khan was noticed by Salman on the sets of Yuvraaj. Zarine who was Kat’s body double found a dream debut in Veer (2010) and a mentor in Salman. After Veer bombed, Zarine was seen in the item song Character Dheela in Ready. Her next release Housefull 2 did great business, but didn’t benefit her. She is now gearing up for her debut Punjabi film Jat James Bond, which will hit the screens on April 14.
