The Bard of Avon will never stop inspiring Bollywood filmmakers. And whenever any of the legendary English poet and playwright William Shakespeare's work is adapted on celluloid, it's sure to attract attention. The latest successful adaptation is that of Romeo and Juliet, which Sanjay Leela Bhansali presented in his Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela. Here's a look at B-town biggies that have been inspired by Shakespeare's tales.

A Shakespearean touch to Bollywood hits

Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela (2013)
Sanjay Leela Bhansali's magnum opus is based on the tragic love story Romeo and Juliet. In the Gujarati version of this classic tale, it is the sizzling chemistry of the lead pair — Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone — that everyone is talking about.

Haider (In the making)
Filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj has successfully adapted two of Shakespeare's plays onscreen earlier — Macbeth and Othello. His latest, Haider, is an adaptation of Hamlet. The film, set in Kashmir, stars Shahid Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor, in lead roles.

Maqbool (2003)
The film catapulted Vishal Bhardwaj to the big league in Bollywood. The director's interpretation of Macbeth, set in Mumbai's underworld, opened to rave reviews and was a box-office success. The film also worked wonders for actor Irrfan, who has since been doing critically-acclaimed work in Bollywood and Hollywood.

Omkara (2006)
Who could have imagined Othello set in the hinterland of Uttar Pradesh? Director Vishal Bhardwaj gave an Indian twist to the tragedy, and presented a fascinating film set in rural India, depicting political power struggles as the backdrop.

Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (QSQT)(1988)
An innocent love story, in which a boy meets girl and falls in love, unaware that their families are bitter enemies, and finally both of them die. This is QSQT in a nutshell. Starring Aamir Khan and Juhi Chawla, this was an earlier Bollywood venture that was inspired by Romeo and Juliet.
