In AARAKSHAN, while Saif Ali Khan is her love interest, Amitabh Bachchan plays Deepika Padukone's father. So while the core subject of the film was dramatic enough, the demand of the script was for Deepika to share certain chemistry with Bachchan so that it turned out to be convincing enough and reflected well on screen.
However the young woman does admit that she was a little conscious about coming face to face with Big B in the film. After all when all in the industry maintain that just sharing a frame with him is a big moment, Deepika has quite a few scenes where they came together.
"Yes, it was and you know what, today when I look back and reflect, I think it was all build up in my own head," says Deepika, "Before stepping into AARAKSHAN I had never interacted with him very closely. I had perhaps met him a few times socially on a 'hello-hi' basis but that's about it. Due to that I was really very flustered on the first day of the shoot as I didn't quite know what to expect from him."
"I think what also helped further was the fact that Prakashji has written several moments quite brilliantly for the film," she continues, "Even though there is so much drama in the film, there are these little moments between Amitji, Tanviji (Azmi) and myself that present our family as the one which is very close knit. There is nothing artificial about the way it all comes across for the audience. They would be able to relate to all of that well as there is a quintessential Indian-ness in the way our family is projected. The sense of togetherness has been brought out well here."
