Born on September 10, 1972, Anurag Kashyap got his first break with Ram Gopal Varma’s Satya (which he had co-written with Saurabh Shukla). Kashyap always wanted to be an independent filmmaker, but his ideas were way ahead of his times. He got a reality check when his debut film Paanch was banned. Post Paanch, Kashyap made Black Friday and that too was banned because of the controversial subject but it went on to become one of the most influential underworld films of Bollywood. After years of raving and ranting against B-town celebs, the Gorakhpur born filmmaker finally got his first box office success in the form of Dev D, and he became one of the most sought after filmmakers. But that didn’t stop at telling stories that he believed in, but backed many other directors and produced their films.
Anurag finally found a place in Bollywood’s big league. His last gangster drama, Gangs Of Wasseypur not only won him accolades in the international film festival circuit but his two-part revenge saga was also appreciated back home as well. That resulted in a lot of new talent coming into the industry. Though Bollywood insiders might not like every project that he backs, the fact is that today everybody wants to work with him. AK is presently shooting for Bombay Velvet starring Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma in Sri Lanka. We at BollywoodLife wish Anurag a very happy birthday!
