SRK’s Chennai Express achieved yet another box office milestone and set a new record in its fourth weekend. According to trade reports, the Rohit Shetty comedy starring Shahrukh Khan and Deepika Padukone touched the 400 Crore mark in its worldwide Gross collections on Sunday. The earlier record was held by Aamir Khan's 3 Idiots which had ended its run below Rs 400 Crore. Even though there is some debate over the exact number, Chennai Express is way past the 200 Crore mark (approx Rs 220 Crore) on the domestic charts.
Meanwhile the overseas collections stand in the range of Rs 110 Crore. The film is now heading towards the end of its theatrical run, and is likely to wrap up at around Rs 340 Crore ‘Net’ (after excluding taxes from the final Gross). In its fourth weekend Chennai Express added Rs 3 Crore plus.John Abraham’s Madras Café saw reasonable jumps in premium multiplexes over its second weekend and should manage a lifetime total of Rs 50 Crore, which is very good for a film of this genre.
The movie is expected to further add a huge chunk of revenue from non-theatrical sources, given the positive word of mouth. Satyagraha picked up rather well over the weekend and collected close to Rs 40 Crore, which is above trade estimates, since the film got negative reviews on its opening day. However the film will have to sustain itself well in the coming days, to close at a respectable number, since next week is a crowded one with the release of Shuddh Desi Romance and Zanjeer.
