Here is a reunion we all have been waiting for; Amitabh Bachchan and Rekha. The twosome was last seen together some three decades ago in 'Silsila', the Yash Chopra romance which invited real life comparisons for the leading pair. After the 1981 film, the two became strangers to each other, interestingly their first film together too was called 'Do Anjaane' (1976). But that could well become a thing of the past, if the makers of Welcome Back have their way. TOI has it that the film's producer Firoz Nadiadwala and director Anees Bazmee are in talks with Rekha and Bachchan Sr. for the sequel of their 2007 hit Welcome. While Amitabh has been approached to play a Don (played by the late Feroz Khan in the first installation), Rekha has been offered the role of a wealthy fashionista. Confirming this, Bazmee said, "Bachchan saab has done almost every role in his life but I can assure you that this one will be something terrific and special for him. The role will also be much longer than what Feroz saab essayed." Added Bazmee, "Nadiadwala has bounced it off Rekhaji too. I have yet to meet both of them, which I plan to do in the next seven-eight days."
A source close to the development said, "Neither Amitabh nor Rekha have expressed any apprehensions so far about working together in Welcome Back. And yes they do have scenes together." Amitabh and Rekha have worked in 18 films together- the popular ones being: Kasme Vaade, Muqaddar Ka Sikandar, Ram Balram, Khoon Pasina, Imaan Dharam, Ganga Ki Saugand, Mr Natwarlal, Chashme Buddoor and Alaap. While Welcome starred Feroz Khan, Akshay Kumar, Katrina Kaif, Anil Kapoor and Nana Patekar, Welcome Back's cast includes John Abraham and Shruti Hassan as the new additions with Nana Patekar and Anil Kapoor reprising their roles. The film is expected to go on floors in a month's time from now.
