And to add to that, Naitik accused me of ignoring him when he needed me most and also said that I was only interested in seeking praise from the family. This accusation left me stunned. I felt very hurt by his accusation because I have always been concerned about Naitik and his welfare and whatever I did for Rashmi’s wedding was because I consider Naitik’s family as my own. I wasn’t looking for praise, I only wanted to lessen everyone’s tension and ensure that Rashmi’s wedding went off smoothly. This argument and the bidaai got me very emotional as I recalled memories of my own wedding. At that time, I had always dreamt of living happily ever after with Naitik and never expected such bitterness and misunderstandings to come between us. My tears just wouldn’t stop flowing and I found it very difficult to get a grip on myself. I was really hurting. When it was my turn to bless Rashmi, the blessing came straight from my heart. I hoped that Nikhilji and her bond remain strong and that there be no scope for any misunderstandings between them. I know how it feels when your partner fails to understand you and I never want Rashmi to face such a terrible situation. I guess as a wife I was expecting Natik to understand me but perhaps he too was expecting the same and this led to a clash in expectations. I did try to make amends and patch up with Natik but he was miffed and rebuffed my advances.
After the bidaai, when I saw Gayatri Ma’s condition I realized that she needs me and I tried my best to calm her down. I can understand her pain as the very thought of leaving Ma and entering a new family made me sad during my bidaai. I don’t know if I can ever take Rashmi’s place but I will try my best to be a good daughter to Gayatri Ma.
As I prepared to be a good daughter, I started wondering where I had failed as a wife. But friends, I am glad that this time Naitik’s misunderstanding did not last for long as he realized his mistake and apologized for his behaviour. He said he was wrong and hugged me. I felt that it was my fault too, Naitik was unwell and I should have paid more attention to him. Anyway I am glad that the issue has been solved and we are back to being a happy couple. Making up after a fight is the best part, isn’t it? The joy of reuniting after a fight or argument is really sweet.
It is not possible for couples to completely avoid fights but from my experience I feel that better communication between the couple can help lessen misunderstandings. If Naitik had explained to me about what he felt in a better manner the misunderstanding could have been avoided. Even I should have taken out some time and lent an ear to Naitik in between the wedding preparations, as I knew that he was going through a tough time and needed my support. I have learnt some valuable lessons from this experience and am sure this will help Naitik and me as a couple in the future. Meanwhile, continue to write to me at [email protected].
