Sujoy Ghosh to not act in any film after Rituparno's 'Satyanweshi'

After essaying the role of a sleuth in 'Satyanweshi', the last film of Rituparno Ghosh, Bollywood filmmaker Sujoy Ghosh today said he would never don the actor's hat again. "There is no question of facing the camera again," said the 'Kahaani' director who agreed to portray the character of Byomkesh Bakshi only because of Rituparno Ghosh, who died in May leaving the film in post-production stage. Sujoy recalled how the director of 'The Last Lear' called him up one day and offered the role. "There is something in his voice and approach that you can't say no. "Now 'Satyanweshi' is ready and we are all geared up for release... but Rituda remains not reachable," he said in an emotional tone. "It was amazing the way Rituda envisaged my role and how the story unfolded in 'Satyanwesi', based on Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay's novel 'Chorabali' (quicksand)," he said. Sujoy had watched Satyajit Ray's Byomkesh film 'Chiraikhana' and the Byomkesh series on Doordarshan, but Rituparno asked him not to model on any Byomkesh, classics or new age ones directed by Anjan Dutt. "He wanted me not to consciously or unconsciously draw references from any known work and I went by what he had said," Sujoy said.

Recalling his first shot in the film, "It was delivered under great stress. I had to speak a long dialogue on horse back and was supposed to pass in one single turn." He expressed disinterest in filming any Byomkesh work, when asked if he would emulate Dibakar Banerjee, who will also be making several films on the great detective. "I don't comprehend Byomkesh Bakshi much. And I also don't see much of him on big screen," he said. Music director Debojyoti Mishra, one of the close associates of Rituparno, said, "Ritu had left a cue which me, Abhik (Mukhopadhyay as DOP) and Arghyokamal Mitro (editor) jointly followed up and the film emerged trimming some parts." "We, the three persons, finally succeeded in bringing the film to a definite conclusion," he said. Produced by Shree Venkatesh Films, 'Satyanweshi' will be released on August 30.
