Born on August 15, 1961, Suhasini Maniratnam celebrates her birthday on Independence Day. Looking back, she has had a career studded with meaningful films and a string of awards for her performances in these. A film technician in her early days, Suhasini made her debut in the superb Nenjathai Killathey in 1980. In the next few years, she made her foray into Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada cinema. Hugely popular in Kannada, Suhasini starred in films such as Bandhana and Muthina Haara, both of which won her awards for best actress.
In 1986, she won the National Award for her performance in Sindhu Bhairavi, where she played the role of a young woman who enters into an extra marital affair with a musician she worships. In recent times, Suhasini’s film appearances have been fewer and she takes up character roles in films such as Baadshah in Telugu and Mynaa in Kannada.
