The Wolverine made more money than all four Bollywood releases

Last week saw the release of a number of Hindi movies like Bajatey Raho, Issaq, Luv U Soniyo and Nasha. But surprisingly, the biggest draw of the week turned out to be a Hollywood film — The Wolverine. The Hugh Jackman-starrer reportedly made Rs. 10.5 crore, while none of the Bollywood releases could manage even Rs. 3 crore, according to trade analyst Taran Adarsh. "All the Hindi films were disasters. None of them even had respectable weekends and many shows were cancelled. There was no audience for any of them. Maybe too many films came together and none of them had any buzz. Only The Wolverine did well; all the Hindi films are down the drain,” says trade analyst Amod Mehra.

Another trade analyst, Komal Nahta, seconds Mehra. He says, “It was a very bad weekend for Hindi films with Rs. 3-4 crore collections each. They were horrible films and all are flops,” Girish Wankhede, head of marketing, Cinemax and PVR West, adds that older films have also done better business than this week’s Hindi releases. "The Wolverine opened with 45 per cent occupancy, which is bigger than any other film that released in the same week. The only film bigger than that was Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, which is in its third week. It had 55 per cent occupancy. Ramaiya Vastavaiya and D-Day, which released last week, had 40 per cent occupancy,” he says, adding, “Issaq and Bajatey Raho both had 25 per cent occupancy. Nasha and Luv U Soniyo had no takers.”
