On Sunday night the earth felt a tremor and fans were in a tizzy on social media and reporters were hyperventilating because Bollywood's arch rival Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan hugged. A cordial hug between friends-turned-foes Shah Rukh and Salman at an iftar party supposedly ended their five years bitter rivalry. Let's give you a lowdown of what actually transpired and this is not our fantasy (we have video evidence). When Shah Rukh Khan arrived at the party Salman Khan was already having some fun. The host took Salman around the table and he kept shaking hands and chatting with people till he reached SRK's table. As for Shah Rukh, it looked he didn't eat for months and all his focus were on his plate, oblivious of the hustle and bustle around him. With single-mindedness, as if he was given a serious task to finish, Shah Rukh nibbled away his food.Salman crosses SRK and greets a man next to Shah Rukh; he walks away but then takes a step back to SRK and patted his shoulder. Shah Rukh stood up, turns and straight goes into Salman's arm giving each other a warm hug. Applause! Monday morning with fresh thoughts in mind Shah Rukh posted on social media: "Finally u realize turning the page is the best feeling in the world, becos there is so much more to the book than the page u were stuck on." The story of long rivalry ending in a warm hug became headline. End of story? Wait. Just when we thought the warring Khans are friends again, Salman’s brother Sohail Khan suggests otherwise.
Sohail, who was also present at the party said – ‘Salman & Shah Rukh Khan just greeted each other, nothing else’. Damn! Any die-hard Salman-SRK fans would ask, "But they did hug, right"? A closer look and the nature of their hug is evident. All you can see is SRK turn to Salman, hug and move on to greeting the first person he sees. Host Babba Siddiqui was adamant to get the two together in one frame and he did succeed. They then moved away from each other - as far as they could. After the hug the two didn't even glance at each other. The discomfort was clearly visible during the photo-op.Well to play spoil sport - it was just a cordial hug at a social gathering. Of course, they have managed to avoid each other several times. Point to note is that Salman's father, screenwriter Salim Khan was also present and he happily chatted with SRK. So if father can do so can the son. Such hopes of revival of friendship surfaced when Salman attended SRK's movie premiere 'Jab Tak Hai Jaan'. The two danced with Amitabh Bachchan. But Shah Rukh rubbished talks about patch-up. Salman and Shah Rukh Khan had never spoken to each other ever since a major brawl at the party of Katrina Kaif's 25th birthday in 2008. The two superstars had also avoided each other in public. Thus the hugging and dancing pair of Salman-SRK creates a template of friendship and patch-up that rivals can fall back upon for inspiration.
