Trade buzz suggests that the Rishi Kapoor-Irrfan Khan-Arjun Rampal starrer will score better than the relatively smaller romcom featuring Girish Kumar and Shruti Haasan After movies like Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, Ghanchakkar, Raanjhanaa and recently Bhaag Milkha Bhaag have enjoyed a good solo run at the box office and cashed in on it, film buffs this week are blessed with two options, strikingly different from each other. This week, there’s Nikhil Advani’s espionage thriller – D-Day, starring Rishi Kapoor, Irrfan Khan and Arjun Rampal together for the first time – and Prabhu Deva’s romcom – Ramaiya Vastavaiya, which marks Girish Kumar’s debut alongside Shruti Haasan. Though the two different genres cater to varying audiences, the trade is confused over which of these has better prospects at the BO. “D-Day has everything that it takes to toss up a blockbuster – phenomenal characters, an ambitious director, a gripping plot, etc, but it lacks an A-league star who can ensure an opening,” believes exhibitor-distributor Akshaye Rathi. “In my opinion, all the positives will make up for that, as they did with Aashiqui 2, Raanjhanaa and more recently, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. With a positive word of mouth, D-Day has what it takes to become a roaring success!”

Numerologist Bhavikk Sangghvi predicts, “Each of the actors will be delivering earnest performances helmed under able direction and hence D-Day will appeal to viewers who like watching realistic and hard-hitting cinema with a strong dose of nationalism.” About Ramaiya Vastavaiya, Akshaye says, “Despite the fact that the film has a new male lead (Girish) and Shruti Haasan, Ramaiya… has a USP that can ensure not only a good opening, but a good run too – Prabhu Deva! The music of the film is superb and that should only help it sustain well if the content of the film is accepted by the audience!” Whereas Bhavikk foresees, “The love story will fail to win your hearts and the efforts put by the entire team will go completely unnoticed.” Rajesh Thadani, Distributor, Multimedia Combines feels, “The buzz for both the films is good as of now. I think RV will perform better than D-Day.” We feel D-Day certainly has an edge over RV, which doesn’t look like a successful proposition to us. Watch this space for box office collections next week!
