Pakistani actress Meesha Shafi makes her Bollywood debut in ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’

She became instantly famous with her Jugni number, and later got to make her acting debut in Mira Nair’s The Reluctant Fundamentalist. Now, the Pakistani actress Meesha Shafi will make her Bollywood debut with Hindi film Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. Yes, besides Sonam Kapoor, the movie on the legendary Milkha Singh will also feature Pakistan-based singer and actress Meesha Shafi. She is playing the role of Perizaad, who is the best friend to Farhan Akhtar's character in the movie. “Our cultural heritage and stories are deeply rooted that it’s natural to relate to cinema being made here,” says Meesha in a statement. Meesha Shafi has performed many of her musical numbers at Coke Studio. In 2010, she became a household name after her super hit song with Arif Lohar on Coke Studio Alif Allah (Jugni) became a runaway hit. The song also got featured in Saif Ali Khan’s Cocktail (2012), and was loved by the music buffs.

Meesha is the daughter of Pakistani television actress Saba Hameed and Syed Pervaiz Shafi, and before foraying into acting used to do modeling. In fact, Mira Nair selected her for The Reluctant Fundamentalist without taking any auditions. Bhaag Milkha Bhaag is her first Bollywood film, and might do other Hindi projects as well.
