UTV Motion Pictures' movie Ghanchakkar, which hit the screens this Friday, has made a decent business at the Indian Box Office in the first weekend of its release. But this domestic comedy has fallen back with a huge margin in beating the opening weekend collection record of Emraan Hashmi and Vidya Balan's previous outing The Dirty Picture, which had raked in Rs 32.25 crore nett in three days. Unlike The Dirty Picture, Ghanchakkar, which was carrying huge buzz, prior its release, opened to a lackluster response at single screens in the morning and afternoon shows on Friday. Its occupancy in multiplexes was slightly better, but overall, its business was below the mark. The movie showed remarkable growth in the evening and night shows. It collected decent numbers at the Indian Box Office on the first day, but failed to shatter the record of The Dirty Picture, which had raked in Rs 9.25 crore.

Ghanchakkar was expected to show a big jump over the weekend. While it business remained almost same on Saturday, the Emraan and Vidya starrer obviously had a big leap on Sunday and its collection was close to the opening day numbers of The Dirty Picture. It has collected Rs 23.7 crores nett at the Indian Box Office in the (3 days) first weekend. Its breakup is Rs 7.2 cr on Fri, Rs 7.3 cr on Sat and Rs 9.2 cr on Sun. Prior the release of Ghanchakkar, Emraan and Vidya were seen heavily promoting the film on TV shows like Indian Idol Junior and Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 6. In addition, its producers had several strategies for its publicity. But what made the movie do a poor performance is that it garnered almost negative reviews and poor ratings from film critics.
