No takers for Ram Gopal Varma's 'Satya'?

Ram Gopal Varma’s sequel to his 1998 landmark film Satya is ready but apparently there are no takers for it. With newcomers in the cast, sources claim Ramu has been facing an uphill task of making the crime thriller see light of day. Says a source, “He is finding it difficult to sell it. His office has approached some production houses but the response has been lukewarm.” The maverick filmmaker’s last few directorial ventures like The Attacks of 26/11, Bhoot Returns and Department proved to be box office duds. Coupled with his recent bad run at the marquee is what B-Town naysayers have been saying for a while -- that RGV has lost his Midas touch is apparently adding to his dilemma. Adds the source, “Satya was about an immigrant who arrived in Mumbai and gets pulled in by the underworld. In the sequel Ramu’s focuses on an immigrant who arrives to reestablish the underworld. Ramu has been suggesting that buyers take a decision after seeing the content. He feels the film has the potential.”

RGV however maintains, “It is a trilingual film and the shooting is still under progress. The producers have not yet approached anyone to sell it as they are waiting for its completion which will take a few months.” It was a surprise hit at the box office and was considered among the best films of the 1990s and also one of the best movies on the underworld in Bollywood.Ram Gopal Varma’s Satya released in 1998. Its screenplay was by Anurag Kashyap and Saurabh Shukla. The cast consisted of J D Chakravarthy, Manoj Bajpai, Urmila Matondkar and Shefali Shah.
