Superstars Anil Bheem and Ravi B had the overflowing Centre of Excellence stirring at the Father’s Day show on Saturday night. Two other stars, Anand Yankaran, of the well-known Yankaran clan of Waterloo, Carapichaima, and Avinash Maharaj did more than justice as they all belted several songs from their vast repertoire. Among the distinguished guests were Minister of Energy Kevin Ramnarine, cultural activist Ajeet Praimsingh and Andy Rajpaulsingh, Caparo businessman, while Kenneth Supersad served as master of ceremonies, adding bits of humour in his usual way at regular intervals. After more than a decade, Yankaran now residing in New York was still in his glory as he belted two well-known favourites, Jo Jo Meraa and Banda Baba. Young Avinash, who has made a name for himself, was totally appealing as stalked the stage from one point to the next, demonstrating that he had full control, not only of himself, but also of the audience which clapped and screamed as he performed. Anil Bheem who has become a national icon on the East Indian stage has an overstocked repertoire of Bollywood film songs, chutney and bhangra among others.
On Saturday night, he again established contact with the audience with such favourites like, Chook Chook, Bahena Bahena, Jana Jana and Honeymoon. Anil’s mother Prematie Bheem, a noted singer for more than 50 years, came on stage and sang several old hits from Bollywood and local folk songs. Additionally his beautiful 16-year-old daughter, Pritvi Bheem came on stage in regalia and contributed first class entertainment and she too created a stir. But the night would not have been completed without the majestic appearance of Nisha Bissambhar who came on stage performing solo, and later with Ravi B and their sister from New York. Ravi B who is no stranger to any audience glittered with his usual excellent stage regalia and several of his favourite hits. The show which lasted for more than five hours was the crowning glory for the annual Father’s Day entertainment professionally put on by Rafi Mohammed. “These shows—Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day and Father’s Days—are aimed to knit families together and to promote fellowship among all sections of the national citizenry,” Mohammed said.
