A cheating and breach of trust complaint was filed at the Bandra Police Station against model-actress Pooja Chopra on Tuesday, June 11. Anmol Jewellers and Pooja’s ex-stylist Anisha Jain have alleged that she borrowed a pair of diamond earrings worth Rs 5 lakh from them and later refused to return them or pay for them. According to the complaint, Pooja was shooting for an event on March 13 this year and Anisha, her stylist at that time, collected three pairs of earrings from Anmol on her behalf. Pooja selected one of them but after the shoot, she couldn’t locate the earrings anywhere. Anisha in her statement said Pooja informed her about the theft on March 15, and told her she had filed a police complaint. “Initially, Pooja was willing to pay for the earrings but later refused to do so as investigations going on. Finally, when she did not pay, I had to file a police complaint along with Anmol Jewellers against her,” reads Anisha’s statement to the police. Ishu Datwani, owner of Anmol Jewellers said: “Initially, Pooja told us she liked the earrings very much and would like to buy them.
Later, she told us they had been stolen but assured us that she would still pay by cheque. But she kept dragging her feet and ultimately told us she could not pay us as the cops were investigating the case. At that point, we told her to issue post-dated cheques and she agreed but went back on her word. She had also promised to give us an undertaking which she never did. We had to file a police complaint against her,” said Ishu. On her part, Pooja said: “That my ex-stylist has filed a complaint against me is news. This Anmol Jewellers is a fraud. When I filed a case of theft two months ago, the cops told me not to pay the amount to them since investigations were on. Why are they getting so desperate and impatient? Now they are targeting Anisha as she was the one who had collected the jewellery on my behalf. But I’m shocked that she can take such a drastic step against me.I have no problem paying them the money as it is a paltry amount, but when there is a possibility of the jewellery getting recovered, I have every right to try my luck, don’t I? In fact, only two days ago, my man Friday was called to the police station. I’m waiting for the investigations to get over. I don’t see this as a grave issue.”
