Getting into the skin of a “Punjabi kudi” was a huge challenge, said south Indian actress Priya Anand, who appears in this weekend’s Hindi film ‘Fukrey.’ “This is my tenth film and my character is unlike other roles that I have essayed so far."Anand plays a seventeen year-old Punjabi girl from Chandni Chowk, a role that came to her through auditions.
She was the sole south Indian actor among the Hindi-speaking crew and cast. “I had to break out of the mould that south Indians can’t speak Hindi. Apart from fighting the language and culture barrier, I also had to deal with my insecurities as an actor.”
