Karan Johar on Anurag Kashyap’s Bombay Velvet: It’s unusual for me

Producer and Director Karan Johar will be back in films as an actor. Yes, the actor has signed Anurag Kashyap’s Bombay Velvet, where he will be seen playing a negative role. Karan had earlier made a guest appearance in two films Om Shanti Om and Luck by Chance, but this time he will be portraying a full-fledged character in the film. The actor confirmed the news saying, "It`s true that I`m acting in Bombay Velvet and it’s unusual for me. I was blown away by the narrative... Since I`m playing an antagonist, there are shades of grey to my character."Johar is very excited as well as nervous to act in a film after a long time. He expressed this feeling with the statement, "I didn`t know whether I was ready for it. Now, I will start working on my role with Anurag. I will follow his directorial vision, and I won`t bring my director`s baggage on the sets." Anurag, who thinks Johar is good at his work, said that he approached Johar to talk on the movie but suddenly made his mind to cast him. Kashyap commented, "Karan is fantastic for the part.

I actually wanted to bounce ideas off him. He loved the script, and I suddenly asked if he will play the role. He was surprised, but said yes. Karan said he will charge Rs 11, and the money kept aside will go for special effects and production."Johar started his career as an actor portraying Shah Rukh Khan’s close friend in Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge but shifted to direction at the age of 25 with the film Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. Karan Johar is not the first director to be cast in Anurag’s film. He had previously signed director Tigmanshu Dhulia in Gangs of Wasseypur series in which he portrayed a negative character. Talking about the film, it is a planned trilogy which tells the story that how Bombay became a Metropolis. The film will have lead actors Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma. The two are playing lovers, whose lives blend with Bombay’s evolution from 50s to early 70s. The movie is based on historian Gyan Prakash’s book Mumbai Fables. We wish Karan all the very best for his villainous debut.
