Bollywood mourns Jiah Khan

JIAH KHAN COMMITTED suicide at her residence in Mumbai’s Juhu area, police said on Tuesday. She was 25. The Britain-born actress was found hanging at her flat in Sagar Sangeet Building in the posh Juhu area of northwest Mumbai around midnight. The cause of the suicide is not yet clear, police said, adding that autopsy reports were awaited. News of her death was first reported by actress Dia Mirza through a social networking site around 1.45am. Jiah shot into the limelight in 2007 with Ram Gopal Varma’s Nishabd opposite Amitabh Bachchan. She played a teenager besotted with a man old enough to be her father. She got a Filmfare Best Debutant nomination for the role. In 2008, she was seen with Aamir Khan and Asin in the blockbuster Ghajini, a remake of A.R. Murugadoss’s Tamil film by the same name. She was last seen in Sajid Khan’s Housefull with Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh, Deepika Padukone and Lara Dutta.

She was born Nafisa and changed her name to Jiah before going back to her birth name. Her mother is Rabiya Amin, an 80s actress who was seen in the Tahir Hussain movie Dulha Bikta Hai. “JIAH KHAN WAS FULL OF LIFE” Calling her “full of life” and “high-spirited”, Bollywood celebrities expressed their grief and shock over the death of the young actress. “What!!! Jiah Khan ??? what has happened ? is this correct ? unbelievable !!!,” tweeted a shocked Bachchan. Ram Gopal Varma called Jiah a girl with “spunk and spirit”. “Never ever seen a debutante actress with more spunk and more spirit than Jiah when I was directing her in Nishabd. The whole unit of Nishabd was literally in love with Jiah. “No matter what her problem was I just so wish she applied her on-screen philosophy of Nishabd to her own life.

Shocked and choked to hear about Jiah,” Varma tweeted. Varma says she was depressed about her career. “The last time I met her, Jiah told me that everyone around her makes her feel like a failure,” Varma posted on his Twitter page. “Inspite of being highly appreciated in Nishabd and being a part of the hugely successful Ghajini and Housefull, she Bollywood mourns Jiah Khanhad no work for the last three years. I don’t know what led to this, but Jiah was very depressed about her career and scared for her future,” he added. “So young and so pretty,” recalls Varma, adding: “Just can’t believe that someone as young and so full of life is just dead.” Riteish Deshmukh, who worked with Jiah in Housefull, said, “Nothing worse than waking up to bad news - shocked n dumb struck - RIP Jiah. She was full of life and had incredible sense of humour. She was a friend n will miss her. Am deeply saddened.” “Jiah Khan was full of life when I worked with her long time back. So sad that something drove her to take this extreme step. RIP,” tweeted Anupam Kher who had also worked with the actress.

Shahid Kapoor, said, “Shocked and saddened to hear about Jiah Khan... Very disturbing. RIP... May her soul rest in peace.” “Life has to be experienced and lived! It’s a limitless ocean, have to swim through it,and not let it drown you! Rip Jiah Khan! God bless her soul,” Bipasha Basu tweeted. “Rip Jiah Khan. Terrible tragedy. Very very shocking and disturbing news,” added Sonam Kapoor. Filmmaker-choreographer Farah Khan tweeted, “Can’t register that Jiah is no more... Worked with her in Housefull and she was so beautiful n such a good soul. Too young to go Jiah.” Filmmaker Kunal Kohli said, “What she must’ve gone through to take such a step we’ll never know. May her soul rest in peace.” “Shocked to hear about Jiah Khan, she was too young to give up on life. RIP,” said Arshad Warsi. Dia Mirza posted on her Twitter page, “RIP Nafisa(Jiah) Khan. You were too young and beautiful. This is no way to go! Life is too precious. The worst phases pass. They do. Never give up!.” “Shocked and saddened by the news. Gone way too soon. RIP Jiah Khan,” added Neha Dhupia. “God bless you. We will meet in another life until then stay blessed. Spoke to Jiah two months back and I promised I would dress her soon. I don’t know what it was that was more important than her life. RIP,”
