Carrying a famous surname in Hindi film industry has its own share of responsibilities. After initially oscillating between forgettable bit roles in Bollywood and sketchy characters, Aarya Babbar finally realised his niche in Punjabi films. While Bollywood is definitely still part of his itinerary, the young actor is firing rapid salvos in Pollywood, a fact that has been reinstated by the recent runaway hit, 'Jatts In Golmaal'. And the younger Babbar has announced his arrival to stay. TOI caught up with this bright light in a lounging mood in the city recently. Excerpts: Your film has entered the elitist crore club. It's one of the very few Punjabi films to reach that mark. How do you feel? I'm very happy with the way the film has been accepted by the audience. Everyone in this field tries to make a fantastic film, but what has made Jatts In Golmaal a roaring hit is that people have loved it. It feels really nice to know that the audiences are appreciating it. What is very striking about this film is that for the first time, instead of a multi-starrer, a Punjabi film has become a actor's show? I feel very overwhelmed. In the Punjabi film industry it is usually the singers who cross this kind of a box office record. But honestly, I am of the opinion that a film always does well because of its team. From the actors, director, singers to even the spot boys, this film is a team effort. And the credit goes to all of us as a team.

Do you feel that comedy as a genre is becoming somewhat cliched...been there, done that? Well, whether its cliched or not, the fact is that it's still working for the audience. Had this not been true Jatts In Golmaal would have not been breaking box office record. And I'm an actor of the belief that always give the audience what they want and what they like. Because at the end of the day you're making a film for them. So, is Bollywood also happening for you now? Oh, yes. I'll be shooting for my next film with Neil Nitin Mukesh. Besides that now I'm going to completely focus on my next Punjabi release with Neeru Bajwa, Naughty Jatts. How did your parents react to the prospect of you venturing into Punjabi films? My parents have always supported me when it comes to Punjabi cinema. I really respect my father's decision and opinion especially when it comes to Punjabi cinema. My father has actively contributed to this cinema. Plus, the love and respect that Punjabis have filled us with is overwhelming.

What is your take on the metamorphosis that the Punjabi film industry is going through? There is a surely a boom in the industry right now. What we need to focus on is more discipline and more professionalism. With these issues solved we can challenge any industry. Finally this industry has woken up and there are films releasing every week. Have you ever thought of joining politics like your father? It's too early to comment on this right now. But I do believe that till the time the youngsters won't take a stand on bringing about a change, a revolution cannot take place. You're the child of acclaimed actors Nadira and Raj Babbar. Does the pressure of living up to people's expectations of your lineage weigh down on you? See, the pressure will always be there. But the fact is that I must keep doing my work. The more hits you give, the more pressure will go away. And for me the pressure is only about the coming Friday. You've done theatre with your mom also for quite some time. Do you plan to dabble again? I'm doing theatre even now, but not as actively as before. But definitely theatre has helped me understand cinema better. The nuances of acting that I've imbibed are due to my stint on stage.
