Sonam Kapoor is under-utilised: Anand Rai

Sonam, daughter of actor Anil Kapoor, made her debut with Saawariya in 2007 which did not do well at the box office. After a string of unsuccessful films including Thank You, Mausam and Players, she is now gearing up for Raanjhanaa, where she will be seen essaying the role of a girl-next-door. The 27-year-old has big projects like Bhaag Milkha Bhaag and Khoobsurat remake, besides a YRF untitled film opposite Ayushmann Khurrana.

The world may be familiar with Sonam's fashionista side, but the director reveals that in reality she is a simple girl. "After meeting and talking to Sonam and her family while narrating her this film, I realised that she is a middle class girl. She is next-door-girl. She behaves in the same way as any girl would behave," Rai said. Raanjhanaa, slated to release on June 21, is a story of a Hindu boy who falls in love with a Muslim girl.
