Fitness enthusiast Bipasha Basu has just got herself a new kind of athletic trainer. It is called TRX Rip. The Rip Trainer is portable and can be used by virtually anyone anywhere by attaching it to any secure anchor point. The actress got hooked on to it on her visit to Singapore last month. She is currently using it to develop a whipcord body for her next film.
Body basics
Bips elaborates, “I need to constantly change my exercise and diet regime to suit the characters I play in my films. Since last month I have taken up a new kind of physical training. I saw TRX Rip training in Singapore and I bought it. I will start shooting for my thriller Creature from June and I need a particular kind of body for the film. I have to be much leaner and toned. I had put on a little weight for my last film Aatma and need to lose that. Rip Training utilises a lever bar and resistance cord that challenges the body in all three planes of motion — reps, sets and workout.
It utilises the same asymmetrical loading we encounter every day, like carrying groceries, picking up your child, throwing a ball, or performing athletic movements such as swimming, running, and biking.”
Work for it
So what does it involve? She elaborates, “A lot of warm-up and stretching exercises. I do split training where I work out in the morning and in the evening. Normal resistance training in the morning and half-an-hour of cardio in the evening (which is a mix of walking, running and elliptical). I need another couple of weeks to get to the shape I want to achieve. I have received flak for becoming skinny so now I want to be just toned but with my curves intact. Creature requires a lot of physical work so I need to be fit.”
Food fetishes
The Bengali bombshell adds that she doesn’t believe in taking protein supplements. “I love my food and get all the required nutrition from food only, no supplements. I am eating healthier stuff like stirfried vegetables, spinach, chicken soup, grilled mushrooms or fish and eggs in all forms.
Basically I mix a lot of green veggies with meat and instead of six small meals now I eat eight to boost my metabolism.” The actress lets on that she starts her day with a glass of wheat grass shot and apple which is also her favourite snack. “When my body craves sugar I eat an apple. It’s like a quick fix. After a wheat grass shot, I take five pre-soaked almonds. Breakfast is eggs and oats. When I eat wrong my trick is never to feel guilty just go burn it! I love desserts but now I am not having any sweets for a month.”
